Hochuen Medical has been recognized by Medtech Business Review Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top Medical Device CDMO Services 2026,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “Top Equipment Manufacturers,” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the Medtech Business Review research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Vick Liu, Vice President of International Sales and Operations.
Contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) play a critical role in helping medical-device companies move from concept to commercial production, bringing together specialized processes, suppliers and manufacturing expertise along the way.
Many CDMOs have developed particular strengths across areas such as design support, tooling, injection molding, microfluidic fabrication, assembly or packaging. Relatively few, however, have built enough of these capabilities internally to offer the kind of broad, turnkey manufacturing solution that Hochuen Medical provides.
For medical-device companies, this means coordinating multiple capabilities and suppliers as a product moves from early development into commercial production to create additional handoffs and adding complexity to the transition from prototype or pilot production to scaled manufacturing.
Hochuen Medical has built its CDMO model around addressing that challenge through vertical integration: bringing a broad range of capabilities together under one roof.
The company’s focus is centered on two specialized areas: microfluidics and medical devices. Instead of relying on external partners for individual steps, Hochuen Medical has invested in developing capabilities internally across product development, engineering, tooling, manufacturing, assembly, and other critical production processes. This allows customers to work with a single manufacturing partner throughout development and production, rather than coordinating multiple specialized suppliers.
According to Vick Liu, Vice President of International Sales and Operations at Hochuen Medical, many companies in the CDMO space offer specific manufacturing services, but fewer can combine those capabilities into a complete solution.
“Our goal has always been to develop as many capabilities in-house as possible. For our customers, this means we can truly become a turnkey solution for them,” Liu says.
The vertical integration is what distinguishes Hochuen Medical from CDMOs that can support only isolated portions of a project. By connecting specialized capabilities under one roof, the company can help reduce handoffs, reduce manufacturing lead time, save costs, improve communication between development and manufacturing teams, and support a smoother path from concept through commercialization.
This approach has helped the company support a wide range of microfluidic applications, including DNA sequencing, DNA microarrays, organ-on-a-chip technologies, cell culture systems, PCR cartridges, point-of-care testing products, and at-home sample collection solutions.
Supporting Customers from the Early Stages
Hochuen Medical’s involvement often begins before a product reaches traditional manufacturing stages. While conventional contract manufacturers typically support companies after designs and processes have already matured, the company works with customers while they are still refining prototypes and planning for commercialization.
The company helps customers evaluate how a design can transition into a repeatable manufacturing process while considering future production requirements. This includes addressing design challenges, improving manufacturability, and planning automation strategies that support higher volumes.
By participating early, Hochuen Medical develops a deeper understanding of each product’s history. That knowledge becomes valuable when customers need design changes or manufacturing improvements later in the development cycle.
Combining Expertise with Manufacturing Depth
Manufacturing microfluidic and diagnostic devices requires more than basic production capabilities. These products often involve extremely precise structures, specialized bonding methods, and careful handling of reagents.
Hochuen Medical has spent more than a decade developing expertise in this field. The company understands the challenges involved in producing microfluidic channels, integrating different materials, and combining multiple processes into reliable manufacturing workflows.
Its capabilities include high-precision injection molding, LSR (liquid silicone rubber) molding, laser cutting, thin-film die cutting, microfluidic plastic bonding (such as laser welding, ultrasonic welding, heat staking, thermal diffusion bonding, etc.), reagent formulation, lyophilized beads handling, wet reagent blister packing, plasma surface treatment, reagent dispensing, manifold manufacturing, and packaging. The company also built its own tool shop to develop internal mold-making capability and improve control over quality, timing, and cost compared to utilizing third-party tool shops. As a result, the lead time is 2–3 weeks for making a prototype injection mold and 4–6 weeks for making a production mold.
Creating Faster and More Transparent Partnerships
For Hochuen Medical, speed does not come only from equipment or capacity. The company believes communication and collaboration are equally important. Dedicated teams of project managers, engineers, and business representatives work closely with customers throughout development and manufacturing.
When challenges arise, the company prioritizes a transparent approach to identify issues quickly and make decisions more efficiently. Hochuen Medical hosts customer teams frequently to work side-by-side and work through problems together.
“We work best with our customers when we are working together. Joint problem-solving will always lead to the best outcome and that’s why we prioritize being transparent about what our current challenges are and invite our customers to collaborate with us,” Liu explains.
Preparing for the Next Stage of Growth
Hochuen Medical operates FDA-registered and ISO 13485-certified facilities (with a total size of 500,000 sf) with cleanroom and GMP capabilities to support advanced medical device production. These systems are particularly important for products involving reagents and diagnostic applications.
The company currently operates business centers in Los Angeles, CA and Singapore, and manufacturing facilities in Shenzhen and Dongguan, China, while continuing to develop its Malaysia site in Johor Bahru. Beyond expanding capacity, Hochuen Medical is exploring additional manufacturing capabilities in surgical disposables, medical instruments, and animal tests.
As medical device companies continue seeking manufacturing partners that can provide technical expertise and production reliability, Hochuen Medical is positioning itself as a long-term collaborator. By combining engineering knowledge, manufacturing capabilities, and early-stage involvement, the company aims to help innovators move complex medical technologies from ideas into finished products.
